About Me

Hi.  I’m Maria Harshe.  I am Harshe Law.  When you call my firm, you talk to me.

I formed Harshe Law out of a desire to help people. And in particular, to help people achieve their business goals. To help entrepreneurs be… well… entrepreneurial.

I have fun doing what I do. I helped advise a young couple as they bought the assets of a former restaurant, opened their own restaurant, and then purchased the real estate in which the restaurant operates. This restaurant, by the way, is now an undisputed local favorite in a small town outside of Ann Arbor. I helped a married father of two leave his 9 to 5 job by buying a (now) extremely successful service business in Ann Arbor and members of his extended family have joined him in helping to make the business a huge success. I helped another client purchase a successful engineering and design firm, negotiate the commercial lease terms and later purchase the building. There are numerous others dreams I am privileged to help my clients fulfill. A coffee shop in downtown Ann Arbor.  An exercise studio. A yoga studio. A nail salon. A bar. A mind-blowing ag tourism destination. And right now I am assisting several other individuals as they buy businesses, operate businesses or sell their businesses.

Of course, not everything about owning your own business is sunshine and rainbows.  There are compliance issues, leases, loans and employment matters, to name a few.  So when legal issues arise in the operation of the business, I help my clients resolve them with timely, strategic and practical business solutions. And when it is time for the sun to set and the business to unwind, I assist in selling the business as it is entrusted to the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Harshe Law is not my first gig.  After having graduated from the University of Michigan (1989, B.A. Latin) and the University of Michigan Law School (1992, J.D.), I worked at a prestigious “big five” law firm in Detroit and another extremely highly respected boutique labor and employment law firm in Bingham Farms.  I am proud of these experiences and through them am privileged to have worked with some of the very best and brightest legal minds around.

For what it’s worth, I am also an entrepreneur myself, having owned and operated a successful store on the University of Michigan campus and invested in real estate. With my passion for small businesses, it should be no surprise that I was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug again – when I decided to start my own business, Harshe Law.

Law is an important part of my life but it is not my whole life.  Not even close. I am blessed to have an awesome family.  My husband, Jeff, is an executive at a real estate development firm in Ann Arbor.  I also have four children who keep me running. Hannah is a recent University of Michigan graduate. Janie is attending the University of Michigan. Sammy is heading to Yale University and Beanie (really Brianna but nobody calls her that) is at Dexter High School. When I am not brainstorming with my entrepreneur clients I am likely texting with my daughters, having lunch with friends, running to or from a variety of kid sporting events or wiped out from my busy day, exhausted but contented.
